Which Animals don’t die while bitten by Snakes ?

Animals that don’t die when bitten by a venomous snake include the ones that normally prey on these serpents – you read right, predators that regularly feed on venomous snakes! –, including:

– The secretary bird.

The “snake-killing Kung Fu bird”, a vicious predator so named because it kills any snake by striking it with a single claw-swipe, using incredible speed and precision. In fact, biologists have deduced that this killing strike transfers five times the secretary bird’s own weight to its hapless prey in one-hundredth of a second!

– The mongoose.

Various species of mongooses, including India’s grey mongoose, are known world-wide for their extraordinary ability to fight and kill cobras with ease. Also, they’re completely immune to cobra venom, and they’re incredibly agile when fighting the serpents, which is very problematic for the stamina-lacking reptiles.

– The honey badger.

The honey badger is the true meaning of a voracious eater. Sure enough, up to 25% of its omnivorous diet consists of venomous snakes. For that matter, it’s blessed with an extraordinary resistance to venom, all thanks to molecular tweaks present in its resistant receptor.

– The hawk.

Hawks, being opportunistic feeders, won’t mind at all taking on the legless reptiles in order to feed. For that matter, they have absolutely no issue in picking up a snake so as to crush it with their sharp talons (claws) or to drop it from a ridiculous height! Because of this, snakes are very wary of hawks, and therefore are usually reluctant to venture (or rather slither) out into open areas, where they’re easily exposed.

– The hedgehog.

This tiny creature has a fantastic defense against almost any attack, for sharp pointed spikes all over its body make biting it the most unpleasant act to do. Sure enough, since a snake strikes quickly and without warning, it hence encounters a mouthful of spikes. Once the reptile has been debilitated enough, the hedgehog will clamber on top of its prey and bite through its vertebrae. When hunting serpents, the hedgehog is blessed with a natural resistance to snake venom, without being completely immune however.

– Snake-eating serpents.

Don’t be stunned, folks: some species of snakes have developed a diet of other serpents, including the venomous ones! Hence, they are also immune to the venom. For example: the common kingsnake (see above) is known to be immune to rattlesnake venom, and regularly feeds on rattlesnakes.
